DIASTASIS REHAB LOSE YOUR MUMMY TUMMY®

The Diastasis Rehab Lose Your Mummy Tummy® program is for women of all ages. It does not matter when or even if you have ever had a baby! The condition of diastasis recti can affect anyone.

Everyone is born with his or her outermost abdominal muscles separated.  As the nervous system matures, the muscles usually close. This occurs when a child is around three years old. However, in a small percentage of the children it does not close and may require surgery. Even if your muscles have come together they can always separate again by doing certain activities that place consistent and prolonged force or pressure against the connective tissue that joins the separated muscles. Exercises such as sit-ups, crunches, Pilates' 100s, yoga backbends and twists and sports such as, kickboxing, tennis and golf may all cause a diastasis.

For pregnant women, the growing uterus places enormous pressure on the connective tissue and abdominal muscles, frequently creating a diastasis, or if you already have a separation likely making the condition worse. With each subsequent pregnancy, the muscles spread further apart and the connective tissue becomes thinner and weaker. Any further abdominal trauma can potentially lead to the connective tissue tearing away from the muscle, causing a ventral hernia and requiring surgery.

A sure sign of a diastasis is:

When you are repeatedly asked if you’re pregnant… when you’re not!
Having an outie belly button: this is a side effect of diastasis recti.
Back problems: connective tissue is not a good support system for your back.
Gastrointestinal problems: the intestines are now supported by connective tissue instead of muscles.

The Tupler Technique® program is all about healing the connective tissue.

Healing connective tissue is not an overnight or permanent process. You can always re-open a diastasis by using your abdominal muscles incorrectly. Muscular action that puts force and pressure on the connective tissue will re-open a diastasis.  The Tupler Technique® program gives you the skills to close a diastasis and to keep it closed for the rest of your life.
